Dialogue is now numbers, yet the scene goes on!
Setup and Format
- 2-3 players.
The players play out a scene, but are given no prompt. And they have one key constraint: all dialogue is now numbers, counting up from 1. Each player's successive dialogue continues the counting. However, players are free to physicalise their character's emotions and intent.
Continue until about 30, or just when the scene seems to be over.
Learning Objectives
All dialogue is removed, yet entirely coherent scenes are still created in this game. Without worrying about what to say verbally, players now have to focus on their physicality to express the elements of the scene, their relationship, and their emotions.
Examples
Player A: 1, 2, 3? (as she holds out something to the other player)
Player B: 4, 5... 6! (as he rejects it, but quickly stops her)
Player A: 7, 8! 9, 10, 11, 12 (she drops the object, apologising)
Player B: 13. 14. (he shakes his head in dismay)
Etc.
Variations
- This can easily be played with a single word instead of counting.
