Justify the bizarre movements and poses at the hands of unskilled puppeteers.
Setup and Format
- 2 players
- 2 puppeteers (can be audience members)
The 2 players take the stage, then call for two (audience member) volunteers. Each volunteer is assigned to a different player as the puppeteer for that player. The players take a neutral pose then the puppeteers can pose them however they feel by moving their limbs/body/head into position.
The players are allowed free movement with their face (look around with their eyes and move their mouths to speak), but otherwise are not allowed to move any other part of their body unless their puppeteer moves them.
Based off each player's first pose, the players start the scene. Their dialogue should reflect their current poses, possibly hinting that the puppeteer should move them to a more appropriate position. During the scene, the puppeteers can freely move the players without regard for the scene. The players work to justify all movements.
Learning Objectives
Justification of the pose is key, much like in related resources.
Tips
- Puppeteers can move the legs by nudging them with their foot - the player takes that as a sign to move the leg forward.
